Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Celebrations (School-wide)

Content:In addition to setting up decorations for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, various activities were also organized to allow children to experience the festive atmosphere and to enhance their understanding of Chinese culture. During the lantern festival, the children carried lanterns and freely roamed around the school, sharing and appreciating them with each other. The children from different class made traditional lanterns, created flour mooncakes using traditional molds, played lantern riddles, and more, introducing them to some aspects of Chinese culture and arts. The children also tasted traditional Mid-Autumn Festival foods such as mooncakes, star fruits, pears, and pomelos, deepening their understanding of traditional festival foods. Additionally, through story sharing, flag-raising ceremonies, explanations of the national anthem’s significance, and proper etiquette for paying respects, the school deepened the children’s understanding of China and their own identity.

The Joy of Chinese Art (School-wide)

Content:As Lunar New Year approaches, the school invited parents and children to participate in decorating the school. Parents created various styles of paper cuttings displayed in the hall and corridors. The children made tangerine paintings and paper tangerines, the lower class made New Year flower paintings and firecrackers, and the upper class made paper-cut decorations and paper lanterns. The campus was filled with homemade New Year decorations and small ornaments, immersing the children in a festive atmosphere and deepening their understanding and interest in Chinese cultural arts.

Chinese Cultural Carnival and Lantern Festival Event (Parent-Child)

Content:The Lunar New Year Lantern Festival event can be used to inherit and showcase the traditions and customs of Chinese culture. Through the collaboration between families, schools, and communities, graduated parents and church volunteers come to the school to assist in the activities. This allows children and their families to dress in traditional attire and simulate a visit to the Lunar New Year flower market, engaging in various booth games such as watching traditional performances, making tangyuan (sweet rice balls), DIY spring couplets, learning about New Year delicacies, arranging festive decorations, experiencing intangible cultural heritage arts, and more. Participants gain a deeper understanding and hands-on experience of the Lunar New Year’s characteristics, Chinese art and culture, while enjoying the festive atmosphere together.

Fascinating Face Theater (School-wide)

Content:The school invited a group to perform a Changing Faces Theater act, allowing children to learn about and appreciate traditional Chinese performing arts. In addition to enjoying the performance, children also created decorations featuring Peking Opera facial makeup, Sichuan Opera changing face mini-books, and Sichuan Opera facial makeup mini-drums, nurturing their interest in Chinese culture.

National Security Education Seminar (School-wide)

Content:The school participated in a National Security Education Seminar sponsored by the Kwun Tong District Office entitled “Caring for the Family and the Country, Sharing Security”. The seminar focused on the theme of “caring”, using picture books and stories to teach children to understand and feel the care from their families, as well as the care for their country and its people, aiming to raise awareness of national security among the children.

Marvelous Chinese Kaleidoscope (School-wide)

Content:The school invited a magician to conduct the “Marvelous Chinese Kaleidoscope” Chinese cultural promotion event for the children. This event integrated magic, storytelling through picture books, puppetry, and other elements to introduce cultural knowledge related to the Dragon Boat Festival, deepening the children’s understanding of Chinese culture.

Shadow Puppet Interactive Theater (K1)

Content:The school invited a group to perform a Shadow Puppet Interactive Theater, allowing children to learn about the operation of shadow puppets, Chinese folk stories, and to appreciate traditional Chinese art and culture in a lively and engaging manner. In addition to enjoying the performance, children had the opportunity to manipulate paper puppets themselves, experiencing the joy of shadow puppetry firsthand.

Visit the Sha Tin Road Safety Park (K2)

Content:After listening to a traffic safety officer’s lecture, children can freely pretend to be cyclists in
Sha Tin Road Safety Park , learning about using road facilities correctly as pedestrians. Through play, they learn to follow rules, care for public property, respect and care for others, ultimately becoming good citizens.

Tie-Dye Workshop (K3)

Content:Through tie-dye activities, children can experience traditional handicraft making firsthand, learn about Chinese traditional crafts and culture, understand various cultural domains, and enhance their appreciation and understanding of Chinese culture.
